Rebels 2 Titans 2
The Red Deer Midget AAA Optimist Rebels got a nice surprise before the weekend when veteran forward Justin Faux was returned to them from the Olds Grizzlys and in just his second game he was already paying dividends, scoring a goal in the Rebels 2-2 win over the Lethbridge Titans.
“He scored a big goal to tie it up for us — he’s only been back with us for three or four days,” said Rebels head coach Doug Quinn.
The Rebels trailed the Titans 1-0 heading into the final period when Faux sparked a comeback with an early goal to tie the match 1-1. The lead didn’t last but Connor Hartley scored shortly after to knot the game again. Faux then ended up with the game on his stick with under a minute left when he was awarded a penalty shot, but he couldn’t convert and the Rebels had to settle for a tie.
Travis Weber made 28 saves for the Rebels.
Still the draw meant the Rebels took three out of four points from the weekend after beating the UFA Bisons 5-3 on Friday.
“We still got a lot of work to do,” said Rebels coach Doug Quinn. “We’re working pretty hard, we just have to tighten up on some of our systems and puck movement needs to get a little better as does out defensive coverage. but overall.”
The Rebels are back in action on Saturday when they head to Edmonton to play the Knights of Columbus Pats at 5:15 p.m. and then on to Grande Prairie for a Sunday afternoon affair.
