A west-end Ottawa retirement home says it is co-operating with police and Health Ministry investigators following the death of an 82-year-old resident.

OTTAWA — A west-end Ottawa retirement home says it is co-operating with police and Health Ministry investigators following the death of an 82-year-old resident.

The Longfields Manor home in Barrhaven says it is not under investigation itself, adding the safety of residents and staff remain a top priority.

Police and paramedics were called to the home on Beatrice Drive just before noon Monday.

Doreen Flann was pronounced dead at the scene and police are treating her death as suspicious.

An 82-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident but police are not immediately identifying the man.

Ottawa police Staff Sgt. Dave Veinotte said Monday the man was found injured at the scene and taken to hospital in stable condition.
