The Ottawa Senators acquired Matt Gilroy from the Tampa Bay Lightning for fellow defenceman Brian Lee on Monday.

OTTAWA — The Ottawa Senators acquired Matt Gilroy from the Tampa Bay Lightning for fellow defenceman Brian Lee on Monday.

Gilroy has two goals and 15 assists in 53 games with Tampa Bay this season. In 180 career games with the Lightning and Rangers, the 27-year-old has nine goals and 34 assists.

The North Bellmore, N.Y., native won the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in the NCAA in his senior season Boston University.

Lee has five goals and 23 assists in 167 career games with the Senators.

The native of Moorhead, Minn., was taken ninth overall by Ottawa at the 2005 draft.
