City buses were filled with 1,212 more passengers on World Car Free Day.

Free bus rides were part of the international event that encouraged alternate forms of transportation.

The total ridership was 6,568, compared to 5,356 the previous Saturday. That’s a 23 per cent increase.

The day was marked with a fun-filled event at Barrett Park on Saturday.

Lauren Maris, environmental program specialist, said the results were very positive and she hopes residents will continue to go car free at least one day a week.
