A man and a woman will be sentenced in December after pleading guilty to drug trafficking in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench on Tuesday.

Fawisa Mohamed Hassan, 23, now of Calgary, and Dursa Moume Tofik, 30, now of Brooks, each pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine for the purpose of trafficking at the start of a scheduled four-day trial.

They will be sentenced on Dec. 16 following preparation of pre-sentence reports. Three other charges against each accused are expected to be withdrawn once sentencing is complete.

Federal Crown prosecutor Dave Inglis told Justice Stephen Hillier that Red Deer RCMP, acting on information from an informant, did surveillance for a few months on the “dial a doper” operation.

He said people in a vehicle believed to be the traffickers would meet various people in parking lots, malls and convenience store lots.

Drugs were suspected to being sold to people who drove up and then left after a few minutes in the suspect vehicle.

Police stopped the suspects in a vehicle on Christmas Day 2008 and found crack cocaine and cash on both Hassan and Tofik.

Police found eight grams of cocaine and more than $4,200 in cash on Tofik and 28 grams and $2,900 in cash on Hassan.

A third accused, Mohammed Ahmed Mohamoud, 29, of Red Deer, received a four-year jail term more than two years ago when he pleaded guilty to drug trafficking, breaching conditions of a bail release and possession of the proceeds of crime.

After busting the trio, police got a search warrant and searched two homes on Dustin Street and Boyce Street, locating 140 grams of crack cocaine, $24,380 in cash, a handgun, scales and cellphones.

Inglis told court that he would seek a more severe penalty against Hassan because she was identified much more often on surveillance tapes than Tofik.

She also had a greater quantity of cocaine on her when stopped in the car, court heard.
