Panthers finished third at Early Bird

The Red Deer Topco Oilsite Panthers finished third in the premier division of the Edmonton Ladies Early Bird Tournament during the weekend.

The Red Deer Topco Oilsite Panthers finished third in the premier division of the Edmonton Ladies Early Bird Tournament during the weekend.

The Panthers posted a 2-2 record in their pool before losing 11-1 to the Edmonton Junior Warriers in the semifinal.

The Red Deer squad opened the tournament with a 3-1 win over the Calgary Xtreme as Jenn Potts went the distance for the victory, allowing five hits and striking out four. Karissa Burnstad had a single and a triple and Potts added a pair of singles.

The second game saw the Panthers lose 10-3 to the Warriers before bouncing back to down the Edmonton Black Bears 3-1. Potts was once again the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and fanning nine. She also had two of the team’s four hits.

In their final pool game the Topco squad lost 4-1 to the Edmonton Senior A Xtreme.

In the semifinal Lana Dubois had an RBI triple and Joelle Burnstad had a double.
