STANDOFF — Police have charged a couple in southern Alberta after their child was admitted to hospital in critical condition.

Blood Tribe Police say the nine-year-old child was suffering from severe neglect.

The child had to undergo several surgeries at a Calgary hospital and was in intensive care.

The parents, who live in the Standoff area, are charged with failure to provide the necessities of life.

The child, and two other siblings in the home, are now in foster care.

The parents are to appear in Cardston provincial court Monday.
