CALGARY — A Calgary park that pays tribute to former Alberta premier Ralph Klein will have to share space with a cemetery.
A city hall committee has approved a land transfer from the $32-million park, which originally was to include playing fields.
Mayor Dave Bronconnier, who chairs the committee, said the future cemetery in the city’s southeast will provide an extra 30 to 40 years of burial space.
He says the city has about eight years of burial land left.
The park named after Klein includes a wetland that diverts water from overflowing waterways during heavy rainstorms.
It also has natural vegetation that treats runoff water before it flows into the Bow River.
