People seeking to access the Red Deer River at Fort Normandeau are advised that parking will be limited on Saturday because of a special function, says a City of Red Deer release.

Parking is limited on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

People are advised to use alternative canoe and boat launch sites during this time.

River Bend Golf Course, McKenzie trail North, the BMX/Great West Adventure Park and Kiwanis Picnic Area on Fountain Drive are possible alternatives. A Soo-Wuh-Um day area on Hwy 592, west of Penhold is a good boat launch site with gates opening at 8 a.m. and closing at 9:30 p.m.

The Joffre Bridge day use area on Hwy 11 east of Red Deer opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 9:30 a.m.

The release warns that gates at all locations are locked outside of hours and people getting of the river late may find their vehicles blocked or even towed.

It also warns that parking off the highway when accessing launches is both illegal and dangerous. Vehicles could be towed if parked on private property or blocking access to private property.
