Seven Red Deer College plumbing instructors spent $34 on the Nov. 16 Lotto 649 and won $30 million.
The winners and family members claimed their prize at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission office in St. Albert.
Instructor Jim Pollard had checked the numbers and discovered they won while getting ready for work.
He was going to wait and tell the others they had won when he got to work, but couldn’t wait.
“I woke them all up.”
The seven winners will all stay on the job until the end of the current semester, but some have decided they will not return next semester.
