Pink Bridge to remain closed

A Lacombe County bridge damaged by agricultural equipment will likely be out of action for at least two months.

A Lacombe County bridge damaged by agricultural equipment will likely be out of action for at least two months.

The so-called Pink Bridge on Range Road 1-2 about six km south of Bentley was damaged last Wednesday and was closed as a safety precaution.

County public works supervisor Bill Cade said an inspection determined the bridge is unsafe and it will remain closed. An ultrasonic scan is expected to be done soon on steel support beams to determine if they are structurally sound.

Repair work will then have to be tendered.

Cade said it is difficult to determine how long the 38-metre bridge over the Blindman River will remain closed, but at least a couple of months is likely.

It is believed the bridge, named for its telltale colour, was damaged by a wide load.
