Plea issued for McCann clues

Crime Stoppers has put out a plea for “any piece of information” to help find out what happened to an Alberta couple who have been missing for more than a month.

EDMONTON — Crime Stoppers has put out a plea for “any piece of information” to help find out what happened to an Alberta couple who have been missing for more than a month.

Lyle and Marie McCann, both in their 70s, were towing a Hyundai Tucson SUV behind their motor home when they disappeared.

They were last seen July 3 gassing up their RV in their home town of St. Albert, just north of Edmonton, before heading toward British Columbia for a family camping trip.

The motor home was found two days later, burning in dense bush near Edson, 200 kilometres west of Edmonton.

The SUV was found July 16 off a bush trail about 30 kilometres east of Edson, near Carrot Creek.

RCMP arrested Travis Vader and call him a “person of interest” in the couple’s disappearance, but so far no charges have been laid.

“We know that one person can make a difference,” said the release. “We request the public to provide any piece of information, regardless of how seemingly inconsequential it appears, as it might be the piece of the puzzle needed to help solve the investigation.

“And more importantly, help the McCann family.”

The charitable organization is asking people with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.crimestoppers.ab.ca.

The group says it guarantees anonymity to anyone who calls and the information may qualify the caller for a reward of up to $2,000.
