Police cleared in fatal crash

A Calgary police officer has been cleared of any wrong-doing in a police chase that ended in a fatal crash.

CALGARY — A Calgary police officer has been cleared of any wrong-doing in a police chase that ended in a fatal crash.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has ruled the officer did nothing wrong when he drove after a stolen vehicle he had tried to pull over.

The investigative unit says the officer was travelling at a moderate speed, but the suspect was going 155 kilometres an hour in a school zone.

Two men in the vehicle died when it crashed into a house and one person in the home was injured.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was found to have a blood-alcohol level double the legal limit and had also consumed cocaine and marijuana.

The response team reviews cases involving police officers when there is a death or serious injury.
