Police find HIV-positive teen who was subject of public warning

Police in Edmonton say they’ve found the HIV-positive girl whom they allege had unprotected sex without warning her partners.

EDMONTON — Police in Edmonton say they’ve found the HIV-positive girl whom they allege had unprotected sex without warning her partners.

Investigators issued a news release Sunday stating they’d received numerous calls from people who said they’d seen the 17-year-old girl hitchhiking out of Edmonton.

Officers took the girl into custody in the town of Edson, Alta on Saturday.

Police say they received permission from the courts to warn the public about the girl, alleging she posed a significant risk to the community.

They say they took the step after receiving complaints from two males.

Police say that since they issued the warning, another complainant has come forward.

The suspect faces two counts of aggravated sexual assault, and police say additional charges are pending as their investigation continues.

She will appear in court on Tuesday.
