Police in southeast Alberta preparing for possible weekend outlaw biker rally

Police in southeastern Alberta are bracing for a possible outlaw motorcycle gang rally this weekend involving the Hells Angels.

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Police in southeastern Alberta are bracing for a possible outlaw motorcycle gang rally this weekend involving the Hells Angels.

Medicine Hat Police and RCMP say if the event goes ahead there would be up to 100 bikers wearing gang patches in and around Medicine Hat and Redcliff.

Insp. Richard Wigle says as a precaution, police from other communities including Calgary and Lethbridge will be brought in to help monitor the bikers.

Police say the bikers have the right to rally peacefully, but their involvement in organized crime activities make them a higher risk to community safety.

Wigle says people who live in the area have the right to feel safe.

Police say the rally is also expected to involve gangs that are associated with the Hells Angels.
