The new $46-million Central Alberta Cancer Centre opens today in Red Deer.

Premier Alison Redford and other politicians are expected to attend the grand opening at 11 a.m. at the 3942 50A Ave. location.

The expanded centre boasts more than 4,000 square metres — four times the size of Red Deer’s existing cancer facility — and will handle breast, lung, prostate, bladder and gastrointestinal cancer and cases, as well as palliative patients with bone pain or other chronic discomforts who need symptom relief.
