Priest dies from injuries after his vehicle, train collide near Weyburn

A 43-year-old man has died from injuries he received when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a train in southeastern Saskatchewan.

REGINA — A 43-year-old man has died from injuries he received when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a train in southeastern Saskatchewan.

Mounties say Father Joel Rama died this morning in a Regina hospital.

Rama was driving across the rail crossing in Macoun, a community southeast of Weyburn, on Sunday morning when his vehicle was struck by the train.

The Roman Catholic priest was taken to Weyburn Hospital, then transferred to hospital in Regina by air ambulance.

Police say the railroad crossing is marked with signs and the train lights and whistles were functioning properly at the time of the collision.
