SAGUENAY, Que. — Three adolescent boys were arrested in Saguenay, Que. on Friday after a 12-year-old girl was doused with gasoline.
Saguenay police Lt. Andre Gagne said it appears one of the boys poured gasoline on her while the others threatened her with a lighter.
“It could have been a lot worse,” Gagne said Sunday. “But I’m not sure they were actually going to light her on fire.”
All those involved knew each other, Gagne said. The boys were aged 12, 13 and 14.
They had a bottle filled with gasoline and were waiting for the girl and another friend at one of their homes on Friday evening.
The girl managed to escape unharmed and a parent later alerted police.
Gagne said the girl’s clothes smelled of gasoline when she was interviewed by police about the incident.
The three accused were briefly arrested and then released on a promise to appear in youth court in January.
