The Red Deer Quinn Pumps Chiefs split a pair of peewee A lacrosse games at Blackfalds during the weekend to qualify for the Calgary District Association playoffs.
The Chiefs dropped a 5-4 decision to the Calgary Sabrecats I — getting two goals from Connor MacDougall and singles from Chad Mears and Eric Clayholt — and then edged the Okotoks Mustangs 7-6 to clinch the fourth and final playoff berth.
Mears recorded a hat trick against Okotoks, with single goals scored by Danyon Lorencz, Devin Petersen, Peter Larsen and Logan Clarkson.
Derek Friesen stood tall in the Quinn Pumps net for both games.
The Chiefs will be in Calgary Saturday to face the Calgary Sabrecats II in a semifinal. Quinn Pumps will also host the provincial peewee A championship July 6-8.
