Raiders nab pair of medals at varsity volleyball tourney

The Raiders placed second in the boys’ division and third in the girls.

Bev Facey of Sherwood Park won both divisions with Notre Dame second on the girls’ side.

Bev Facey downed the Raiders 25-16, 22-25, 15-10 in the boys’ final after both teams finished at 5-1 during pool play.

The Raiders were 3-0 Friday then downed Vanier Collegiate of Whitehorse 25-23, 16-25, 15-10 and Spruce Grove 25-23, 25-23 Saturday while losing 16-25, 14-25 to Bev Facey.

Notre Dame was fifth in pool play with a 3-3 record as they beat Salisbury of Sherwood Park 25-19, 25-15, Hunting Hills 25-12, 25-22 and Vanier 25-17, 25-17 Saturday.

Hunting Hills were 0-6 as they also lost to Vanier 20-25, 25-27 and Bev Facey 14-25, 19-25 Saturday.

On the girls’ side, Bev Facey beat Notre Dame 27-25, 25-17 in the final.

The semifinals saw Facey down Spruce Grove 26-24, 25-7 and Notre Dame stop LTCHS 25-16, 25-14.

The Raiders beat Spruce Grove 25-16, 25-23 in the third-place match.

The quarter-finals saw Facey down Vanier, Spruce Grove beat Hunting Hills, the Cougars defeat Scarlett and LTCHS drop Salisbury.

LTCHS, Bev Facey and Spruce Grove all finished 1-1 in their pool Saturday.

LTCHS lost to Bev Facey 21-25. 18-25 and beat Spruce Grove 25-16. 25-20 while Facey lost to Spruce Grove.

Notre Dame was 2-0 in their pool beating Hunting Hills 25-14, 25-18 and Salisbury.

Hunting Hills also beat Salisbury 25-16, 25-22.

In the third pool Dr. E.P. Scarlett of Calgary downed Vanier and Sylvan Lake 25-23, 25-22.

Vanier also downed the Lakers 24-26, 25-16, 15-13.
