Raiders post 2-1 record

The Lindsay Thurber Raiders posted a 2-1 record in the provincial 4A boys’ volleyball championships at Calgary’s Dr. E.P. Scarlett Thursday.

The Lindsay Thurber Raiders posted a 2-1 record in the provincial 4A boys’ volleyball championships at Calgary’s Dr. E.P. Scarlett Thursday.

The Raiders opened with a 22-25, 14-25 loss to Grande Prairie before beating the Chinook Coyotes of Lethbridge 25-22, 23-25, 15-11 and the Hunting hills Lightning 27-25, 25-21.

The Lightning defeated Grande Prairie 21-25, 25-19, 15-13 and lost 23-25, 24-26 to the Coyotes.

The Raiders meet Catholic Central of Lethbridge in the round of 16 today while the Lightning takes on the Strathcona Lords of Edmonton.

Meanwhile the Notre Dame Cougars were also 2-1 in the 4A girls’ playoffs at Strathcona.

The Cougars beat the Coyotes 25-21, 14-25, 15-11 and the Bev Facey Falcons of Sherwood Park 25-8, 22-25, 15-8 and lost 25-21, 20-25, 11-15 to the Harry Ainlay Titans of Edmonton,

The Lightning dropped all three of their matches, losing 24-26 to Catholic Central, 26-28, 9-25 to Calgary’s Bishop Grandin Ghosts and 17-25, 18-25 to Grande Prairie.

l At the 3A girls’ championships in St. Paul the Lacombe Rams downed Rundle College of Calgary 25-21, 26-24.

The boys’ 3A finals at Crescent Heights of Medicine Hat saw Camrose beat St. Martin de Porres of Airdrie 25-17, 25-19.

l Central Alberta Christian High School Knights of Lacombe are representing Central Alberta in both the 2A boys’ and girls’ finals.

The Knights lost 19-25, 21-25 to F.P. Walshe of Fort MacLeod in boy’s action at La Crete while the girls’ edition of the Knights lost 23-25, 17-25 to the host Spirit River Renegades.
