PHILADELPHIA — The NHL is ready to formally announce that the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers will take part in this season’s Winter Classic.
The league has called a press conference for Monday afternoon, where it will unveil details of the Jan. 2 game between the teams at Citizens Bank Park.
It’s the fifth straight year the NHL will hold an outdoor game to kick off the new year — although the Rangers and Flyers will meet Jan. 2 to avoid going head-to-head with a full schedule of NFL games on Jan. 1.
The teams will also be featured on HBO’s 24/7 all-access series, just as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals were last season.
The NHL has no plans of holding an outdoor game in Canada this season.
