HIGH PRAIRIE — RCMP have located and identified the mother of a dead infant whose remains were discovered in the yard of a home in High Prairie, Alta.
But police say their investigation is not complete and they haven’t determined if charges will be laid.
The remains were found last Thursday night by a man who noticed an area of his yard had been disturbed.
An RCMP forensic team and major crimes investigators were called in to gather evidence and the remains were sent to the medical examiner’s office in Edmonton.
Police said at the time that there was nothing readily apparent to indicate whether the infant was a newborn.
An autopsy was done earlier this week, but the medical examiner says it may take another two weeks of testing to determine the gender and age of the infant.
