BANFF — Mounties say remains found in Banff National Park are human.

Two hikers discovered the remains late Monday morning near the base of Cascade Mountain.

They contacted Parks Canada and RCMP about the discovery not knowing if what they had stumbled across were bones from a person or an animal.

Sgt. Patricia Neely says the skull has been positively identified as human.

But Neely doesn’t know if there is confirmation on the other bones that were found.

She says the RCMP special tactical operations team was on scene Tuesday looking for evidence that may lead investigators to determine who the person was.
