RDC badminton players off to big start at championships

The RDC women’s pair of Mary Smith and Mizuki Awai got off to a terrific start to the Canadian Colleges badminton championships, before finishing in fourth place.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The RDC women’s pair of Mary Smith and Mizuki Awai got off to a terrific start to the Canadian Colleges badminton championships, before finishing in fourth place.

The RDC duo were 4-1 in pool play after losing 2-0 to B.C. They lost 19-21,18-21 to B.C. again in the semifinals before losing 21-19, 16-21, 17-21 to Ontario in the bronze medal match.

NAIT, who RDC beat in the provincials and in the round-robin, won gold over B.C.

l In other RDC news the basketball Kings dropped a 101-77 decision to Mount Royal in the ACAC final. However, both teams go to the nationals in Truro, N.S.
