CAMROSE — The RDC Queens found their scoring touch as they walked into the University of Alberta-Augustana and came away with a 76-71 victory over the Vikings in Central Alberta Women’s Basketball League play Friday. Karlen Majcher led the attack with 22 points and four rebounds while Lauren Loyek had 14 points and 13 boards and Erin Wiersma had 12 and 13 respectively.

“We made 67 per cent from the line and that was important down the stretch when they fouled,” said Queens head coach Dawn Smyth. “We also hit 43 per cent from the field, which was big for us.”

The Queens put together four solid quarters and outscored the Vikings 25-13 in the fourth to pull away.

“We also our rebounded them 56-42 which played a role,” said Smyth.

Meanwhile the Kings pulled out an 84-76 win, but it didn’t please head coach Clayton Pottinger.

“The score was closer than it looked,” he said. “Their coach got two technicals late which gave us four free throws, which gave us some breathing room.”

Rob Pierce finished with 24 points and Jacob Cusumano had 20. Kings were without RJ Wells, who injured his ankle in practice.

RDC hosts Concordia tonight with the women tipping off at 6 p.m. and men will follow.

EDMONTON — It was 1-0 loss, but against the University of Alberta Pandas that was impressive for the RDC Queens hockey team.

The Pandas, who are one of the premier university teams in the country, scored on the power play with 15 seconds remaining in the game.

“We got an accidental tripping call and they took advantage of it,” said Queens head coach Trevor Keeper. “They’re a high octane team and moved the puck extremely well on their power play.”

The Pandas outshot the Queens 33-9 with Camille Trautman and Toni Ross both playing extremely well for RDC. Former Queen Kaitlyn Chapman was in goal for the Pandas.
