John Persson

Born: May 18, 1992

Position: Left wing

Shoots: Left

Height: 6’2″

Weight: 190 lbs.

Hometown: Mora, Sweden

2009-2010 team: Red Deer Rebels — WHL

Draft: Eligible 2010

Player info: A player that fashion’s himself after Red Wing’s gritty forward Johan Franzen, John Persson appears to have the skill necessary to attack and score from all angles.

The six-foot-two, 188-pound forward skated with the Mora IK junior team in Sweden two seasons ago and for the first time competed for his country in an under-17 tournament also involving teams from Finland, Czech Republic and Russia.

Persson is a player who could easily burst forward as a difference-maker.

“With John, what we’ve been most surprised with is his physical maturity despite he fact he’s only (18) years of age,” said head coach Jesse Wallin. “He’s very strong on his feet, he’s a strong skater and has pretty good ability for a guy his size. It’s been a bit of an adjustment for him getting used to North American ice, but so far he’s made that adjustment really well.”

Persson was selected by the Rebels in the first round of this year’s CHL draft, 41st overall.
