Local Canadian Red Cross volunteers responded to fire last Saturday evening, which left two people homeless.

The officials with the Red Cross Personal Disaster Assistance Team were called at 11 p.m. and stayed at the scene to assist the two people for five hours.

“The building is considered entirely destroyed,” said public affairs co-ordinator Leila Daoud.

The Red Cross volunteer are called by emergency personnel and attend the scene when a need is determined.

“In this case we were able to provide food and shelter for 72 hours as well as a refill of essential medications, hygiene kits and blankets,” Daoud said.

More information about the whereabouts and cause of the fire was unavailable.
