Red Deer karate club kicks competition at Hammer Fest championship

Three members of the Cheney Karate Studios of Red Deer were double winners at the Hammer Fest Martial Arts Championships during the weekend.

STETTLER — Three members of the Cheney Karate Studios of Red Deer were double winners at the Hammer Fest Martial Arts Championships during the weekend.

Samuel Abijero won the eight-nine year-old red-black belt forms and sparring while Raven Cheney captured both titles in the 12-13 year-old red-black belt division.

Nick Marchuk won the junior black belt sparring and forms.

David Fabretti was first in the men’s executive blue-brown belt forms and second in the men’s blue-brown belt forms and sparring while Chris Holden won the men’s orange-green belt forms and was second in men’s executive white-green belt forms.

Jack Marchuk captured the musical forms to go with a second in the colour belt weapon forms and third in the eight-nine year-old red-black belt sparring.

Nicholas Piatt won the eight-nine year-old green-blue belt sparring and was third in forms while Lucas Proteau placed second in the forms and sparring in the eight-nine year-old orange belt category.

Josh Capicio was second in forms and third in sparring in the red-black belt division while Grace Lemus was third in the six-seven year-old white-yellow belt sparring.
