Red Deer police hand out 180 violation notices in October

Red Deer city RCMP handed out about 180 violation notices in October as part of a safe city roads traffic initiative, a police spokesman said Thursday.

Red Deer city RCMP handed out about 180 violation notices in October as part of a safe city roads traffic initiative, a police spokesman said Thursday.

Const. Chris Kosack said 174 violation notices for seatbelt infractions, intersection-related offences and distracted driving were issued, along with two Criminal Code charges and two arrest warrants that were executed.

The program is an attempt to enforce traffic safety laws in the city, Kosack said.

The officer said failing to stop at a stop sign, for example, is a $287 fine and three driving demerit points.
