A Red Deer radio station is playing sweet financial music for the students in Red Deer College’s music program.

Red Deer’s The River, an FM, station, has committed $160,000 to the college’s music program during the next seven years, says Daryl Hollen, general manager at the station.

The donation will create an endowment that will result in future scholarships.

Music students will be eligible for five $1,000 annual awards.

The recipients must exemplify outstanding achievement or progress in private music lessons as well as demonstrate outstanding contributions to the college music ensembles.

Dale Wheeler, college chair for the performing arts, said the college is honoured that the station chose to invest locally.

“Their major donation to support our music students will provide rewarding and deserved scholarships, encouraging our students to strive for the best and pursue their artistic dreams,” Wheeler said.

Hollen said the station, owned by Harvard Broadcasting, believes that the investment will be of great benefit to those students who chose to make music their future.
