A Red Deer woman charged in the hit and run death of a Penhold skateboarder will be in court on Wednesday on new charges.
Jessica Lynn Masyk, 25, has been identified as part of a duo charged after a police cruiser was rammed on Sunday in a Highland Green parking lot. Police were called to the north Red Deer neighbourhood after a report that people driving a truck were attempting to get into parked vehicles.
When police arrived and boxed in the vehicle, the male driver repeatedly rammed the police car and also hit several other vehicles as the duo tried to escape. The truck bearing a stolen licence plate eventually hit a tree in a residential neighbourhood and its occupants fled on foot. Police tracked them down.
Masyk has been charged with assault on a police officer with a weapon; flight from police and two counts of possession of stolen property.
A 35-year-old Red Deer man has been charged with assault on a police officer with a weapon; flight from police; two counts of possession of stolen property; dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; four counts of breach of an undertaking; and failing to remain at the scene. He was to appear in court on Monday.
Masyk was previously charged in a hit and run that claimed the life of Trystan Sorensen of Penhold on May 20 about five km west of Penhold on Hwy 592.
A day later, the vehicle believed to be involved in the collision was reported stolen and later found burned in a farmer’s field east of Innisfail.
Masyk was charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision, public mischief and driving while unauthorized.
In June, Masyk was charged with harbouring a fugitive, and drug and property offences following a separate incident in Red Deer.
