CALGARY — A pair of red panda cubs born at the Calgary Zoo last spring have made their first public appearance — but they decided to be fashionably late.

The two cubs born May 30 took their time coming out to their exhibit for their debut.

They seemed to prefer hanging around some branches in their den area for an extra 10 minutes.

Zoo officials say the cubs are healthy and their mother did a good job raising them.

The pair will be at the zoo for about a year before they’re sent to other facilities.

Red pandas are a species at-risk in the wild, mainly because of habitat loss, demand for their distinctive coat and use of their bone material in medical testing.
