• Shaping the Future: Clay in the Potter’s Hands education event will be offered at Kasota East Camp, June 16-18. Rev. Darryl Auten, artist, spiritual leader and educator will share his wisdom of the changing church. Friday evening banquet includes music by Keith Rempel. • Ride for the Breath of Life motorcycle fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis will be held on June 18 starting with at hot breakfast at Mr. Mike’s on 67 Street. Registration fee of $25 include a ride north and west of Red Deer ending at Falun Community Hall near Pigeon Lake with a barbecue lunch, show and shine, prizes, silent auction and more. • Xtreme Reading, Teen Summer Reading Club goes at the Red Deer Public Library with programs in the mezz. Register in person at either branch or go online to www.rdpl.org.

• The Melting Pot Cultural Kitchen, an interactive live cooking show with guest chefs from different cultures each session, will be offered at The Hub on Ross. • Alberta Pattern Dancers are sponsoring a dinner and dance with The Emeralds on June 17 at the Lacombe Memorial Centre. • The Legend in Black — A Tribute to Johnny Cash, will be held on June 21, at the Harvest Center, Westerner Park at 8 p.m., Tickets, $30, help support the Red Deer Food Bank.

• Red Deer Native Friendship Society will host the Aboriginal Turtle Awards at the Capri Hotel and Conference Centre on June 21. Sixteen aboriginal community members from Central Alberta will be recognized for their outstanding contribution to the area. • Red Deer Amazing Race happens on June 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Presented by Lindsay Thurber Leadership and Red Deer city council, teams will move around Red Deer using only public transportation, walking or bicycles. The money raised from pledges goes to Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre, Central Alberta AIDS Network Society, Children’s Services Centre, Family Services of Central Alberta, and Central Alberta Refugee Effort Committee, and the Central Alberta chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. • CentreFest — Street Performers’ Festival is seeking local performing and interactive artists to take part in this annual festival on July 30 and 31. • Theatre Alberta Artstrek is a residential summer theatre program for teens held at Red Deer College. Exploration I for ages 13 to 15 runs from July 10 to 16 for $505. • Investors Group Memory Walk in support of the Alzheimer Society will take place on June 18, 5 p.m. at Sunnybrook Farm Museum. • Naturescaping contest promoted by the City of Red Deer to encourage gardeners to embrace water-wise principles, will run through the summer with all applications to be received by August 12. Naturescaping is a landscaping method that uses native plants and smart design to reduce environmental impact. Contest is open to Red Deer citizens who naturescape their residential properties within the city limits. Entries will be judged on water conservation, landscape design and biodiversity. Entries must include between five and ten colour photographs, a plant list including common and scientific names and an explanation of water-efficient features within the landscape.
