Report finds Wetaskiwin mom fit for trial in deaths of two boys

A mother in Alberta accused of killing her two young boys is mentally fit to stand trial.

WETASKIWIN — A mother in Alberta accused of killing her two young boys is mentally fit to stand trial.

That’s the conclusion reached in a psychiatric report presented at a court hearing for Allyson McConnell in Wetaskiwin, south of Edmonton.

McConnell, 31, was charged with second-degree murder after the bodies of two-year-old Connor and 10-month-old Jayden McConnell were found February in a bathtub at her home in the community of Millet.

The father wasn’t living with the boys at the time as the couple was engaged in bitter divorce proceedings.

McConnell’s lawyer has asked for time to assess the report.

McConnell, who is from Australia, is due back in court on Aug. 17.
