Hundreds of people who live in an Edmonton condominium are seeking shelter for the next several weeks after asbestos was discovered in their building.

The material that’s associated with the development of cancer was found in drywall at Valhalla Apartments after a fire in two suites of the 16-storey building last week.

About 300 resident have been told they must find other accommodations for the next four to six months while the asbestos is removed.

Condo owners are still responsible for monthly condo fees. Simco Management, which manages the building, says it’s doing everything it can to ensure residents are taken care of.
