Riggers keep rolling

The Red Deer Riggers continue to roll along at an undefeated pace in the Sunburst Baseball League.The Riggers, with Jason Chatwood pitching seven strong innings and also stroking a pair of doubles, knocked off the Fort Saskatchewan A’s 6-4 Tuesday at Great Chief Park, in the process improving to 3-0 on the season.

The Red Deer Riggers continue to roll along at an undefeated pace in the Sunburst Baseball League.

The Riggers, with Jason Chatwood pitching seven strong innings and also stroking a pair of doubles, knocked off the Fort Saskatchewan A’s 6-4 Tuesday at Great Chief Park, in the process improving to 3-0 on the season.

“We’re playing well. We’re burying teams early when we get the chance and we’re getting key hits in close games,” said Riggers playing coach Jordan Weinkauf, who watched his squad score four runs in the first inning Tuesday.

“Our pitching has been very good and our defensive play has also been great so far.”

Defensively, Shayne Court came up with an outstanding catch in centre field and Matt Fay made a standout play at third base,. Meanwhile, Fay stroked a single and double, Kerry Boon contributed a double and drove in a run and Court added a two-run single.

Chad Soucy was the losing pitcher for the 4-1 A’s.

The Riggers return to action Sunday at Fort Saskatchewan.

• The Riggers were 1-1 Saturday in the St.Albert Tigers tournament, which was rained out Sunday.
