Ringette team wins gold at Ottawa tournament

The U14 Sting of the Central Alberta AA Ringette Association struck gold in the 29th Annual City of Ottawa tournament during the weekend.

The Sting was undefeated and claimed the U14 title with an 8-3 win over the Elora-Fergus Edge in the final.

Earlier, the CAAARA squad posted four round-robin victories — 8-5 over the Ottawa Ice, 7-1 over the Manitoba Magic, 9-3 over the GCRA Devils and 9-4 over the West Ottawa Wild. The Sting then defeated the Cambridge Turbos 7-4 in a semifinal.

The gold medalists host their own tournament Dec. 17-18 at Lacombe and will compete in the Pacific Ring competition in February at Richmond, B.C.

Meanwhile, the U16 Sting placed third in their division of the Ottawa tournament with a 2-1-1 record, and the U19 Sting was fourth in their category with a 1-2-1 slate.

The U16 Sting downed the Markham Bears 7-5, whipped the Ottawa Wild 9-2, tied the GCRA Devils 8-8 and fell 11-4 to the Manitoba Magic. The U19 Sting were 6-5 winners over the Lower Mainland Thunder of B.C., lost to the host Ottawa Ice and St. Clements Rockets by 9-4 scores and battled the GCRA Devils to a 6-6 draw.
