A Calgary man arrested in July for robbing a Red Deer bank has been sentenced to 43 months in jail after pleading guilty in Calgary provincial court on Tuesday.

Kwesi Samuel, 33, was charged with robbery and breaching release conditions after a robbery at the downtown branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia on July 18.

After numerous appearances in Red Deer provincial court, Samuel asked in November to have his charges waived to Calgary, where he had other matters before the court.

Along with the prison term, Samuel is prohibited from owning firearms for the rest of his life.
