A man charged in a Rocky Mountain House area murder won’t have a judge and jury trial for almost a year.

Michael Ernest Thivierge, 54, returns to Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench Sept 4, 2012, for the start of a two-week second-degree murder trial, it was determined on Monday.

Thivierge, who waived his preliminary hearing earlier this summer, remains in custody.

The May 18 stabbing death of Chester Shearer, 64, of the Rocky area resulted in a manslaughter charge against the accused but that was increased to second-degree more than a month ago when new information came to light.

Shearer was found stabbed to death at a rural residence on Hwy 752 near Cow Lake, about 15 km southwest of Rocky. Police said the two men knew each other.
