Riggers 10 Stags 4

Mike Ronnie came up a mere triple of hitting for the cycle Tuesday at Great Chief Park, stroking a two-run homer, a double and single as the Riggers ripped the Stags 10-4 in an all-Red Deer Sunburst Baseball League outing.

Ronnie also drove in three runs, while teammate Jared Chatwood stroked a pair of singles, knocked in four runs and also stole two bases.

Brant Stickel earned the win, working seven innings while surrendering three runs.

“He’s been great, a big addition to the staff,” Riggers playing coach Jordan Weinkauf said of Stickel.

“He just brings like a sense of calmness and just goes about getting guys out. He’s been a big addition for us.”

Joel Peterman mopped up for the winners, tossing two innings of no-hit ball.

“Joel had a rough outing his last game and we wanted to get him right back in there,” said Weinkauf.

“He was good tonight.”

The Stags, who suffered their sixth loss of the season and have yet to hit the SBL win column, got a pair of hits from Jamie Vallis.

The Riggers bounced back from last weekend’s 6-2 loss at Fort Saskatchewan to post their fourth win of the season.

“We’re bearing down, we’re having good at bats and the big thing this year is our defence,” said Weinkauf.

“We played just sparkling defence again tonight.

“Guys were making big plays when we needed them and pitchers were getting ground balls when we needed them. It’s just been a complete team game for us so far.”

The Riggers return to action Thursday versus the host Parkland White Sox.

The Stags host the Tigers Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Great Chief Park.
