TORONTO — Marie Saint Pierre served up a study in contrasts in an unconventional installation of her latest creations at Toronto’s LG Fashion Week on Wednesday.

The celebrated Montreal-based designer eschewed the standard runway showcase in favour of a fixed podium platform, offering stylewatchers in the Studio environment a more intimate and up-close view of her spring-summer line.

Mannequins sporting slick gold metallic bathing caps were in variations of the little black dress, including a sheer drape-front collared number and both tank and strapless styles with asymmetrical hemlines.

Live models later emerged in creations channelling the same vibe: designs that blended a stylish, feminine flair with decidedly edgier embellishments, such as a sharp-collared bolero jacket with transparent sleeves and long, thin strips of faux-leather rope cascading from and encircling dress collars. Dresses evoked both an elegant refinement and a relaxed feel with exaggerated draped detailing and fanciful folds of fabric adorning the garments, adding layers of eye-popping texture.
