San Jose Sharks resign free agent Rob Blake to one-year deal

The San Jose Sharks agreed to terms with free agent blue-liner Rob Blake on a US$3.5 Million, one-year deal.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The San Jose Sharks agreed to terms with free agent blue-liner Rob Blake on a US$3.5 Million, one-year deal.

The veteran defenceman had 45 points (10 goals, 35 assists) in 73 games last year — his 18th NHL season.

He finished eighth among League defencemen in shots with 198 and tied for 16th in points.

“Rob’s performance this past season speaks for itself,” said GM Doug Wilson in a statement on Thursday. “He’s a true professional, a leader that has been a captain in the League and still plays at an elite level.

“The way that he carries himself day-in and day-out is something that every player in our locker room should try to mirror.”

The six-foot-four, 225-pounder is seven-time all star and won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Colorado Avalanche in 2001. He played for Team Canada in three Olympics (1998, 2002 and 2006).
