Search underway for missing man

An air and ground search is underway in the Canmore area for a 19-year-old man reported missing by his parents.

CANMORE — An air and ground search is underway in the Canmore area for a 19-year-old man reported missing by his parents.

RCMP say Reid Shellian was last seen by friends in Canmore on Aug. 16.

His parents say Shellian left his home with his mountain bike.

His bike has been found on the shore of the Bow River, upstream from the Old Engine Bridge area.

Helicopters, boats and ground personnel from the Mounties, Kananaskis Emergency Response and Conservation officers are taking part in the search.

On the same day that Shellian was last seen, Canmore RCMP got a report of a possible human body floating down the Bow River.

Two witnesses were fishing just north west of the Old Engine Bridge, when they observed what they believed to be a human body float downstream past them.

A search was conducted but nothing was found.

“The RCMP wish to note that although there are strong indications these could be related, it is not possible at this time to confirm that they are in fact parts of the same incident,” police said a news release.
