Red Deer product Jeff Einhorn recently concluded his Western Hockey League career as a steady, dependable leader on the Chilliwack Bruins blueline. He was also a community-minded individual in and around the city and was runner-up for the league’s humanitarian-of-the-year award which was presented to Moose Jaw Warriors captain Spencer Edwards during the WHL awards luncheon Wednesday in Calgary. Einhorn, the Western Conference nominee for the award — the Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy — was involved with Meals on Wheels, the Salvation Army soup kitchen, the SPCA walking program and B.C. Special Olympics. Edwards, who also wrapped up his WHL career last month, is a former Red Deer Rebel. He played 30 games with the Rebels in 2007-08 and appeared in two games the previous season.
