OTTAWA — The Canadian Libya Council says a second Canadian has died in the fighting in Libya.

OTTAWA — The Canadian Libya Council says a second Canadian has died in the fighting in Libya.

The group has identified the man as Abdelhamid Darat.

The group has little information on the circumstances behind his death, but says Darat went missing a few months ago.

It says Darat’s body was found in a prison in the capital Tripoli, along with the bodies of about 80 other people who were apparently executed.

Darat reportedly lived in Ottawa before relocating his family to Libya in 2009.

On Thursday, friends reported the death of 24-year-old Nader Benrewin, who was shot down while storming a compound in Tripoli.

Benrewin was born in Edmonton and had been working as a software developer in Ottawa before joining the uprising in March.

Foreign Affairs has yet to confirm either Canadian death.
