The family of a Manitoba man who was dumped at a Regina hospital last month with severe injuries say he’s accused an acquaintance of attacking him.
CTV Winnipeg reported that Renee LaFortune, whose son Dustin, 26, turned up at the hospital emaciated, burned and with a brain injury, says her son has been able to speak to police.
Officers in Regina have not identified any potential suspect in the case.
Rene LaFortune still doesn’t know why her son was treated this way.
“I’d like the police to tell me what kind of motive there could be, what kind of motive causes someone to do that to another human being,” she said from her home in Victoria, B.C. on Sunday.
Dustin moved to Calgary about two years ago, but at the end of February he could not be found.
In April, family members got a call that said he’d been located at a hospital.
Cousin Marcel LaFortune believes his cousin was held against his will and tortured.
Dustin, who weighed about 245 pounds, is now about 87 pounds and had to be admitted to intensive care when he showed up at the hospital in Regina.
Marcel LaFortune, Dustin’s cousin, said he believes that with time, the family will be able to piece together the circumstances that led to Dustin’s severe injuries.
Regina police are continuing to investigate but no charges have been laid.
