Kaitlyn Sherrer and Quentin Schmidt are the RDC Boston Pizza female and male athletes of the week.
Sherrer, a Lacombe native and second-year nursing student, skipped the RDC women’s team to a 4-3 record in the ACAC Fall Classic ‘spiel at the Red Deer Curling Centre during the weekend.
Sherrer came up with a clutch triple takeout to seal a close 7-6 victory over NAIT.
The women’s foursome will compete in the winter regionals at Grant MacEwan in February.
The top four teams will advance to the ACAC championship at Camrose later that month.
Male athlete of the week Schmidt turned in a productive weekend while helping the RDC volleyball Kings sweep a home-and-home series with the Grant MacEwan Griffins.
Schmidt contributed 23 kills, two blocks and eight digs on Saturday in Edmonton after chipping in with 10 kills and 10 digs the night before.
The Kings volleyball squad will be in San Diego for a series of matches from Dec. 27 to Jan. 3, while the volleyball Queens will visit Hokkaido, Japan Dec. 16-24.
