Shooting in western Alberta town leads to charge of first-degree murder

A charge of first-degree murder has been laid following what RCMP believe was an alcohol-fuelled argument that led to a shooting in a western Alberta town.

EDSON — A charge of first-degree murder has been laid following what RCMP believe was an alcohol-fuelled argument that led to a shooting in a western Alberta town.

Mounties say they were called to a home in Edson Wednesday night after getting word of a disturbance.

They say two people had gotten into an argument and that one of them allegedly grabbed a long-barrel gun.

Ryan Karl Kuiper was found dead at the scene.

An autopsy determined that the 52-year-old man died from a gunshot wound.

Gary Allen Cozicar, who is 63, will appear in court Feb. 16.
