Sixteen in Calgary mayor’s race

CALGARY — Voters may soon need a program to keep track of all the candidates who are entering the race for mayor in Calgary.

CALGARY — Voters may soon need a program to keep track of all the candidates who are entering the race for mayor in Calgary.

Sixteen people are now seeking the city’s top political job in this fall’s municipal election.

Nominations don’t close until Sept. 20.

Keith Brownsey, who teaches political science at Calgary’s Mount Royal University, says the high number of candidates should spur voter interest.

Brownsey also says name recognition will be a factor in how Calgarians cast their ballots at the polls in October.

The mayor’s race opened up when incumbent Dave Bronconnier announced he was not seeking re-election.
